The Standards
Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on Thursday said it would continue to
support genuine businessmen through quality assurance and
standardisation activities.

Its Director-General,
Mr Osita Aboloma, made the promise at a one-day capacity building
programme on welding practice, procedure and quality assurance in
Kaduna.
According to him, the
capacity building workshop has a key role in the realization of public
safety.
Aboloma, who was represented by his Regional Coordinator (North-West),
Mr Dauda Yakubu, said that SON recently organized a sensitisation
programme on Ease of Doing Business, SON Act 14 of 2015 and reduction of
substandard goods in Nigeria.
“Therefore, it is our collective effort to do the right thing for
business whether small or big in the construction industry value chains.
“SON is poised at ensuring that improved quality, reduction of risk and a
level-playing field is created for manufacturers, importers, traders,
exporters as well as product end-users,” he said.
According to him, we must ensure that genuine business persons are not
disadvantaged by persons in the manufacturing, importation and sales of
substandard products in our country.
Aboloma said that the participants should have the requisite knowledge
on the use of acceptable basic materials by the end of the workshop.
Mr Danlami Datti, the State Coordinator of SON in Kaduna, said that the
objective of the workshop was to put things right in terms of
standardisation, quality and quality products.
Hajiya Balarabe Inuwa, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Works, Housing
and Transport, said Kaduna State Government believed in quality
delivery.
Inuwa said that the state government would partner with SON in promoting
standard goods in the state.
She described the agency as “Nigeria’s mark of standard” and said that
all Nigerians must give support to production of quality products in
Kaduna state. (NAN)
